2020 Leadership Team
Fred Defendorf, Director
Fred is a 2003 graduate of Clarks Summit University. He has faithfully served at CSU for the past five years as the Coordinator of Campus life. Fred is actively involved as a Resident Director of Ridley dorm and works closely with the Student Leadership Council to plan events and build leaders. TLC has been a ministry that Fred has served in for a number of years and enjoys seeing students grow to love God. His wife Hannah and he have four children, Clark, Bryce, Gage and Hudson.
Kristen Miller, Secretary
Kristen is a 2016 graduate of Clarks Summit University. She serves CSU as the Executive Assistant to the Vice President of Academics. In her role, she supports students, faculty, and administration and oversees the Academic Office. As TLC Secretary, Kristen organizes registration, housing, meals, speaker information, and day-to-day details. She loves interacting with the TLC students and youth leaders and is always available to answer any questions.
Charity Smith, Assistant Director
Charity is a 2013 graduate of Clarks Summit University. She serves as the Director of Admissions for Traditional Undergraduate Studies at CSU. Her passion in working with teens is seeing them follow God’s leading in their lives. Charity enjoys having meaningful conversations with students and watching their lives change because of the work of Jesus Christ through them. Her involvement with TLC is simple: pursue God and impact others to do the same. As she works with our female staff she is able to have a role of coach, mentor and friend and help out wherever necessary.
Ted Boykin, Assistant Director
Ted, “B”, is a 1989 graduate of Baptist Bible Seminary. He is an Associate Professor of Bible and Theology and at Clarks Summit University, where he has taught for the past 30 years. Ted and his wife, Sherry, along with their daughter, Katherine, have dedicated their lives to the mission of Jesus Christ, and the mission of CSU; impacting the lives of young people for the cause of Christ. One of the great joys of the Boykin family is serving the Lord and the students as a Residences Director in both Christen and Loescher Hall the past 26 years. He also serves as the Associate Dean of Students for Men. Ted is known as a man who has been transformed by the grace of God, and is passionate about sharing and showing that grace to others. He has been an Assistant Director with TLC for over 11 years.
Colby Bonewitz, Marketing Director
Colby is a 2018 graduate of CSU. He serves the university as the Director of Athletic Communications and enjoys discipling students, particularly athletes. Colby enjoys watching or playing almost every sport and engaging with young adults about spiritual matters. TLC was the tool God used to bring Colby to salvation and is the reason why he believes in the ministry. He serves TLC as one of the two Marketing Directors.
Ryan Buchanan, Marketing Director
Ryan is a 2018 graduate of CSU. Ryan currently serves the university as the Athletic Departments Photographer and works off-campus full-time as a Junior Consultant for businesses. His favorite activities include photography, football, golf, music, and spending time with his friends and family. Ryan has been involved with TLC in multiple positions the past 4 years. He is passionate about CSU and TLC. God has used both ministries to impact many lives and he’s been able to see the fruit of God’s labor through many CSU students and employees.
Billy Mulligan, Media Director
Dan Nichols, Speaker Liasion
Dan Nichols is the Executive Director of The Northeast Collaborative (NEC). As an ABWE missionary, Dan was the founding church planter for Restored Church in Wilkes-Barre, PA. He and his best friend, Joy, have been married for 6 years, and they have 2 sons: Landon and Declan. Dan is finishing his Doctor of Ministry (D.Min.) degree at Baptist Bible Seminary, and he is an adjunct theology professor at Clarks Summit University.
TLC Staff Positions
Clarks Summit University students and alumni serve as ounselors. They are energetic and fun, and they desire to counsel teens towards pursuing Christ in their daily walk.
The TLC music team seeks to go beyond music by leading students in a lifestyle of worship. The team is made up of Clarks Summit University students. Learn more about RiSE Music and Worship
Our TLC child care workers seek to provide quality care and fun for children of youth workers attending TLC. The team is made up of students and alumni of Clarks Summit University.
The TLC Nurse is available each day from 8 a.m. until 10 p.m.
At TLC, we are dedicated to ensuring the safety of our students. Our Safety and Security Department serves the campus by maintaining a safe and peaceful environment.
